Mick knew that he’d made a mistake as soon as he started kissing her. She was so hot and so damned responsive.

“I have to go,” he grumbled, but didn’t pull back.

“I know,” she whispered up to him, but her soft, sweet mouth was on his neck.

“You’re not helping.”

She laughed and the sound went straight to his groin. “Was I supposed to be helping?”

“Yes!”

Another soft laugh. And another kiss on his neck. She nipped at his earlobe, increasing the pleasure. He groaned, then lifted her higher, shifting his erection against her throbbing nub. Now they were equally frustrated, he thought, relishing the thought.

“You’re the one who pinned me to this wall.”

Damn, she had a point! He hadn’t anticipated her reaction, but he should have. After yesterday and last night, he knew now that she was just as sexually voracious as he was. That was probably dangerous.

“I have to go.”

She grabbed his earlobe with her teeth and he hissed. “I’m not stopping you,” she whispered back, then rolled her hips, groaning with the sensation.

He looked at her, realizing she was taunting him. “You want to play?” he growled teasingly.

She laughed, leaning her head against the wall behind her. “Nope. I think you are going to be late for work.” She tilted her head slightly. “Didn’t you say something about a meeting with the FBI agents?”

He had, but he didn’t like her reminding him of that.

“So you’re doing this on purpose?” he demanded, holding her hips tightly as he aroused her even more. He shifted his hips against hers, tormenting that oh so sensitive nub.

“No!” she moaned, her eyes closing with the pressure.

“No?” He did it again. “You want me to stop?”

“Yes!” When he started to pull away, she grabbed his head. “Don’t you dare!” she hissed up at him.

Mick laughed, throwing his head back with delight. “Ah, Ella. You’re better than all of my fantasies put together.” He stepped back, releasing her legs. For a long moment, he held her still, his hands gripping her hips until she was steady on her feet again. “Keep thinking along those lines until later,” he ordered, then brushed a hard kiss on her still-swollen lips. “I’ll see you tonight.”

He left the bedroom. It was one of the hardest things he’d ever done in his life. No, the hardest had been watching her cry when she’d buried her parents and brother several years ago. Not even the pain of losing his best friend had been that brutal. The whole time, all he’d wanted to do was pull her into his arms and comfort her, tell her that he’d make it all better.

But there had been no “better” after that. Losing one’s entire family had been shattering for her, but she’d not only survived, she’d thrived.

And he…loved her for that.

Walking out of her house, he forced his feet to carry him across the street to his house. He took a moment to walk inside and shower, grab a fresh uniform and his equipment belt, then he was back outside, heading towards the sheriff’s office.
